John Lennon

John Winston Ono Lennon2 ( born John Winston Lennon )
, MBE (Liverpool , UK, October 9, 1940 - New York , United States , December 8,
1980 ) was a multi-instrumentalist musician and songwriter who rose to fame as
one of the founding members of the Beatles , one British rock band active
during the 1960s , and recognized as the most commercially successful and
critically acclaimed in the history of popular music . Along with Paul
McCartney, formed one of the most successful pairs of twentieth century composers.
Born and raised in Liverpool , where as a teenager he
became familiar with the skiffle craze , forming the band The Quarrymen , which
later became The Beatles in 1960 . As the group began to disintegrate until its
dissolution at the end of that decade, Lennon launched a solo career , marked
by several critically acclaimed albums , including John Lennon / Plastic Ono
Band eImagine , and iconic songs such as " Give Peace a Chance" and
"Imagine ".
It proved a rebellious nature and acerbic wit in music
, film , literature and drawing, as well as his statements in press conferences
and interviews. In addition , the controversy pursued him because of his
constant peace activism , along with his wife Yoko Ono. In 1971 he moved to New
York , where his opposition to the Vietnam War led to numerous attempts by the
government deRichard Nixon to deport , while his songs were adopted as anthems
by the anti-war movement . After his self-imposed retirement from the music
business in 1975 to devote time to his family , returned in 1980 with Lennon
